This course matches the pace and academic standards of North American university classes and is taught by instructors with university‑level teaching experience in North America. The small group format ensures plenty of speaking opportunities for every learner. We’ll use the Genki textbook and workbook, and you’ll complete independent work between sessions to support your progress.

These courses are prerequisites for our Regular and Intensive Beginner programs. To learn Japanese effectively, you need to be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana. In each course, you will practice all 46 characters using instructional videos and a writing app or penmanship sheets, and you will receive four detailed corrections on your work.
