Our instructors have experience teaching at North American universities, so you’ll receive high‑quality lessons and a well‑structured curriculum. We’re committed to helping you improve your Japanese. Please study a little between lessons so you can make the most of your class time. We’re excited to support your learning journey.
*Please be aware that certain Classes may be moved online or to another venue if unavoidable circumstances occur, such as weather, public transportation disruptions, or venue-related issues.
Please Note:
Eligibility: Participants must be 18 years of age or older to attend this class.
Location: UBC Alumni Centre/Sarah Morgan -Silvester & Richard Fraser Meeting Room (MAP). Paid parking is available nearby.
Cancellation: Since this event is free, seats fill up quickly. If your plans change, please click the "Change/Cancel Appointment" button in your registration confirmation email as soon as possible so someone else can take your spot.
Attendance Confirmation: We will send a confirmation email the evening before the event. Please click the confirmation button by 7:00 PM to keep your seat. To avoid losing your seat, please click the Confirm button by the deadline.
Waiting List: When a spot becomes available, an automatic notification (SMS) will be sent out simultaneously to everyone on the waitlist. Please be aware that reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beginner 1/Genki 1 Ch.1-3 (GENB1)
Course scope: Absolute beginner. Covers Genki I Chapters 1–3. The Hiragana/Katakana course must be purchased and completed by the end of this course in order to proceed to the next level. A waiver is available with proof submitted through our application form.

Course scope: Genki Book 2 Chapters 13-15. Kanji homework will not be provided for instructor feedback. If you prefer to have your kanji checked, please take the separate Kanji Writing course.
